Mayor Meyer doesn't miss Much. Most Monday Mornings, Mayor Meyer may be seen methodically and meticulously making his way on his mottled mare, Mary, to the Main Street Mayor's Office.
Well, actually. he sort of props himself on her back, and she takes him there, but that sentence was really too rhythmic to remain unwritten.
Once he gets there, he sees to it that the town's business is conducted professionally and privately. We really aren't sure what it is that the Mayor actually does, but if you're gonna call yourself a town, you've gotta have one, and if you gotta have one, he's as good a one to have as any.
There are no potholes in the asphalt in our town, mostly because there is no asphalt over the potholes. The mayor's office keeps track of who's turn it is to drag Main Street, which has a whole different meaning than in the city. Mayor Meyer usually bases his decision on who happens to have a working tractor at the time the dragging is needed.
Mayor Meyer may or may not have a mistress, Marge Manning, a matron of many talents, many of which the Mayor manages to manage. She is a stellar seamstress who sews everything from silken skirts for socialites to scratchy sacks for the local stable staple, corn, which is sold in surprising quantities by both the stable and the Genrall's store.
Marge Manning is a matron of meager means, and many muse at the memory of Mayor Meyer's mishap in making an attempt to move Marge Manning's machines on Mary from Main Street Millinery past the old mine to her modest mud shack made by her own might. Seems Marge Manning made a misstep in the middle of one of the many muddy potholes on Main Street, making Mary move too quickly under the mystified Mayor who was holding the machine and Mary's mane. Mayor Meyer misjudged Marge Manning's misstep and mangled Mary's Mane, manipulating the machine into the muck and the mire of muddy Main Street, maddening Marge Manning into manhandling Mayor Meyer in the middle of Main,The Mayor mended Marge's machine, and now more meticulously monitors the maintenance of Main Street. and Marge made Mary a magnificent muffler for her mangled mane, and all is well enough in Cogarville.
I will tell you more about Mayor Meyer, Marge Manning and maybe even Mary the mare, but for now, My M key must be messed up!!!
