Above Ground - My hose broke, It's Ten O'clock  Saturday Night!

STEP 1 - Turn off the pump and unplug it

PLAN A:  Find your winterizing plugs, put them in, then address the problem.

PLAN B:  If winter plugs are not handy - tie or affix hoses so that the ends are above the water level in the pool., put filter valve (and all other valves) in closed position.

If it is the hose between pump and filter,  put filter in closed position, and if there is no valve before the pump, disconnect hose from front of pump and affix above water level in pool.

If it is the hose between skimmer and pump, temporarily plug skimmer with washcloth, put filter in closed, loosen clamps at skimmer and on the filter discharge (marked RETURN - other end goes to pool )  Remove hose from skimmer, take the loosened end of the return hose, attach it to skimmer and tighten.  You have now stopped the water flow
